Low Frequency Line glitches appear as horizontal lines at low frequency (this is a coincidence — like other glitch classes with "Line" in their names, they are so named because they are associated with
in the detector output signal). They are easy to confuse with scattered light, but scattered light should show some curvature at timescales of +/- 2 seconds. They are also similar to low frequency bursts but the low frequency lines should continue to look like a line even when viewed at the longest durations that Gravity Spy displays.
Cause:
Different causes have been at work at different frequencies, including vibrations from pumps and air conditioning fans. Mechanical resonances of the optics suspensions are also involved.
